Clinical Research Assistant I
OHRI – Ottawa, ON
The Division of Thoracic Surgery is looking for a part-time (can be negotiated to full-time) Clinical Research Assistant I for a 1-year contract, with the possibility of extension. Under the general direction of the Software Manager, the individual will assist in all technical and research aspects of a national research project. The project is a national collective learning network of data recording and reporting focused on improving the quality and efficiency of Canadian thoracic surgical care.

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
Assist with data importing and monitor data quality
Help prepare reports and presentations
Manage all aspects associated with the Ottawa Health Science Research Ethics Board (OHSN-REB), including completing and submitting annual renewals and amendments as required
Oversee the project day-today operations
Coordinate teleconferences and meetings
Create and evolve website content
Maintain educational materials for and communicate with data managers and surgeons

Basic Requirements (Education/Experience):
Undergraduate degree in health sciences, computer science or related field
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Evidence of training certification in Tri-Council Policy Statement -2 (TCPS-2) and the International Conference on Harmonisation – Good Clinical Practice Guidelines (ICH-GCP)
Evidence of training in Food and Drug Regulations, Division 5, and/or Device Regulations, as applicable
Superior organizational, analytical and time management skills
Ability to work independently and as a team member
Strong computer skills: MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, Access

Schedule and perform regular server maintenance
Fine tune indexing for optimal performance
Participate in product design to ensure the architecture reflects best practices with respect to database
Necessary Skills & Experience:

5+ years professional experience, including technical support
Advanced knowledge of database structure and theory
Extensive experience with MSSQL
Experience with database server maintenance and monitoring
Knowledge of server clusters and redundancy
Understanding of disaster recovery and database backup procedures
Familiarity with performance optimization and indexing tools
Understanding of programming techniques for DB access
Understanding of DB design principles, tools and documentation
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and assistance
Degree in a computer science or related discipline
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Team player
Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills
Good analytical and troubleshooting skills
Ability to multi-task and work independently

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Manager, the incumbent will have the following responsibilities:

Responsible for all categories of filing – Central Records
Collecting, creating and maintaining all Unit History and Unit Service records through manual and scanned documentation
Responsible for creating and maintaining all Sales Order Files and archiving closed and refurbished unit information
Responsible for inputting all new units in Access
Assist customer service with any client queries or requests for unit information
Coordinate with outside companies for assistance with shared files
Provides Switchboard relief to security for lunch and all breaks on a daily basis
Prepares daily bank deposit for finance
Responsible for all incoming and outgoing mail
Performs other related duties as required

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Secondary School Diploma with 1 year of related office experience required*
Experience in Records Management and mailroom functions preferred**
Knowledge of medical device terminology and data entry experience required**
Organizational skill and time management skills required**
Excellent English verbal/written communication skills essential**
Bilingual – French communication skills an asset**
